CPET-YOUCH
Future Education Institute
Global Education Innovation Program
Columbia University, one of the world's leading institutions, is home to Teachers College, the largest graduate school in the fields of education, applied psychology, and mental health. Historically, renowned educational figures such as John Dewey have taught here. The College has nurtured prominent modern Chinese educators, including Xingzhi Tao, Menglin Jiang, and Boling Zhang. The Center for the Professional Education of Teachers (CPET) at Teachers College, Columbia University, serves as its distinguished teacher training hub.
CPET-YOUCH Future Education Institute was established through international collaboration between CPET at Teachers College, Columbia University, and Chinese educational partners. Guided by the philosophy “LIVE TO CREATE, TEACH FOR FUTURE,” the Institute focuses on three key areas: educational research, school development, and the growth of both teachers and students. It has initiated the “CPET-YOUCH Global Education Innovation Program,” inviting universities, research institutions, and schools to join, supporting the creation of experimental schools or classes. Through practice and research, we strive to transform data into practical solutions, offering development pathways for more schools and providing students with a higher quality, more meaningful education, injecting fresh momentum into educational reform and innovation.
The program refers to the curriculum system of American high schools. It abandons the mandatory requirement of standardized tests and adopts a flexible credit-based teaching model. This program has teaching sites in multiple locations around the world, breaking the geographical limitations of traditional campuses. Through a multi-site rotation mechanism, students can freely choose their learning environment based on their individual growth paths and obtain rich and colorful learning experiences.
Education Needs Changes
——
Education, an essential part of social progress and individual growth, has always been under great attention and discussion. With the rapid development of society and technology, the current demand for talents has changed dramatically. We need talents with innovative consciousness, critical thinking, and practical abilities, yet traditional education often fails to meet these requirements.
Education needs to change to embrace the challenges and opportunities of the new era and to adapt to the rapidly changing social and economic environment. It is an inevitable trend of the times and also our significant mission to transform educational concepts and goals, strengthen the cultivation of practical abilities and comprehensive qualities, and reduce the pressure of standardized tests, thus providing students with an education that is more innovative and practice-oriented.
Future Requires Innovation
——
Education is not only the product of the development of the times but also a significant force in driving the development of the times. How to cultivate students with innovative thinking and practical abilities? The answer lies in the word "innovation". In the future, innovation will become the key to social development and personal success. In this rapidly changing era, only through innovation can various complex problems and demands be addressed.
There is a growing demand in the education sector for cultivating students' innovative and practical abilities. Students need to have the abilities to solve problems, to work in teams, and to adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
Integrate Knowledge and Practice
——
In today's complex society, single-discipline knowledge can't meet the demands of solving comprehensive problems. We need people with in-depth cognition and practical problem-solving skills. So, interdisciplinary and project-based learning are the directions for current education.
Interdisciplinary learning helps build a more comprehensive knowledge system. Only through it can we get a comprehensive perspective and in-depth understanding for more effective problem-solving. In project-based learning, students need teamwork, division of labor, and practical problem-solving abilities. This learning style encourages students to cross disciplinary boundaries, apply knowledge to solve problems, and cultivate innovative thinking and problem-solving abilities.
Students are no longer passive knowledge receivers but active problem-solvers. Through actual project participation, they cultivate an interdisciplinary knowledge system, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities. Their actions will bring real changes to society and lay a solid foundation for their growth.
Action is needed
——
Therefore, at present, we need to take action. We are committed to breaking the shackles of the traditional education model and cultivating students with innovative and practical abilities. The goal of the project is to cultivate students with an innovative spirit and practical abilities through innovative education to meet the challenges in the era of globalization.
Our project aims to stimulate students' enthusiasm for actively participating in solving social problems by cultivating their innovative thinking and problem-solving abilities. This educational model emphasizes the combination of knowledge and action, encourages students to move from the classroom to society, apply the learned knowledge through actual projects, and jointly solve practical problems with partners from all sectors.
Message
——
Global Education Innovation Program represents a significant improvement to the traditional education model. Through an interdisciplinary learning environment and a practice - oriented approach, we enable students to become active doers and contribute to the solution of global issues. Let's all take action and jointly build a better future.
Shanghai Experimental Class
Shanghai Experimental Class Program is based on the "21st Century Global Capacities Framework" proposed by the Teachers College, Columbia University. It adopts the "Full-curriculum Project-Based Learning (PBL)" teaching model. By setting up projects or scenarios related to the real world, it guides students to conduct interdisciplinary inquiries during problem-solving, thus achieving the coordinated development of knowledge, skills, and competencies.
This project offers American high-school courses that focus on students' "academic inquiry abilities" and "entrepreneurship spirit", and it is driven by these two aspects to cultivate future leaders with Chinese roots and a global vision.
