A dynamic framework for global thinking in the 21st century
21st Century Core Competencies
The 21st century is a new, dynamic era. Rapid tech growth has reshaped culture and revolutionized education.
Reflecting on traditional education and future talent needs, many see that the old knowledge-based model can't meet future challenges. With support from the OECD, UNESCO, and more, 21st century core competencies are widely recognized. Different places interpret and practice them based on their own systems and cultures, creating diverse training and curriculum models.
CPET at Teachers College, Columbia University works to understand, define, apply, and share world - class education principles. Through research, CPET has created a 21st Century Global Capacities Framework. It's a tool for educators, based on 20th century critical-thinking skills, to develop skills like analysis, cooperation, creativity, care, perseverance, and global understanding.
21st Century Global Capacities Framework
The “21st Century Global Capacities Framework” encompasses 20 skills and transforms traditional learning tasks into dynamic and speculative 21st century projects. This framework not only can guide us in designing unit plans or projects, but also rapidly revolutionize our curriculum settings and teaching methods.
21st Century Learner Portrait
As an international cooperation partner in China, the CPET - YOUCH Future Education Institute, based on the 21st Century Global Capacities Framework, initially created the "21st Century Learner Portrait". We believe that new century learners who face the future and challenges possess a set of comprehensive abilities:
The "21st Century Learner Portrait" is a far-reaching educational innovation concept and a profound insight into future talent cultivation. It offers the education community a comprehensive, 3D learner model, leading educators to rethink and redesign education to meet future needs.
It is the Future Education Institute’s mission to contribute to the cause of education through initiatives like the "21st Century Learner Portrait,” which not only provides guidance for educational practice, but also provides impetus for learners' personal development and social progress.
As educators, we face a crucial responsibility of cultivating future leaders. We should consider the learning experiences students need and how these can help them lead and be change agents in the future. Let's create a challenging and opportunity-rich learning environment for children to grow through exploration and innovation and contribute to a better world.
